We highly recommend pre or post cruise stay in Sydney, Australia.
Sydney is the largest and oldest and we believe the most beautiful of all of the cities of Australia.
The Sydney International Airport serves Sydney and is located five miles from the city centre.
Sydney is very easy to get around on foot, by public transportation and also by ferry.
Hotels:
Like any city there are many hotels to choose from at a wide range of price points.
There are some beautiful hotels located near Circular Quay Pier one of two piers, which serve Sydney. This is the pier closest to the iconic Opera House.
Restaurants:
As is the case with there are many choices when it comes to restaurants featuring a wife range of price points as well as cuisine.
Tours:
While we often recommend formal tours this is a city that you can enjoy on your own. The key is to do the upfront research.
Places to visit include:
Sydney Opera House. This is the iconic site for Sydney. We do recommend a tour of the inside of this performing art venue and you can purchase tickets in advance of your arrival. If time permits be sure to check the performing arts schedule and consider taking in the opera and/or theatre.
Sydney Harbour Bridge. You can walk across the bridge on the pedestrian walkway. You can also purchase tickets to walk the outside of the bridge. There is also a gift store where you can purchase souvenirs.
The Rocks. The Rocks is a fun areas to walk around and is located along the Sydney Harbour. The Rocks wsa once home to the Gadigal aborigal people. Its name came from the rocky coast on the west side of Sydney Cove and it was here that the convicts pitched their tents. Thse days the are 100+ heritage sites and buildings. The area boasts a museum along with several restaurants, cafes, and stores.
Circular Bay. This location is where the city’s main ferry terminal is located and accommodates one large passengers cruise ship. It is a short walk to the Opera House and also has shops and restaurants along the walkway. Ferries depart this area and go to the Taronga park Zoo, Watson’s Bay and Manly. You can also book in advance dinner cruises and other cruises of the harbor.
Darling Harbour. This harbor can also accommodate passenger cruise shops and also has shops, restaurants, museums, and other venues. This includes the Sydney Zoo, the Sea Life Aquarium, and Madame Tussaud’s.
Queen Victoria Building. Shopping boasts lots of shopping in many areas of the city. This building is home to 200 high-end shops and is beautiful inside and out.
Sydney Tour. The tour can be seen from many vantage points throughout the city. It includes an observation deck which provides beautiful views of the city.
Royal Botanical Gardens. A short walk from the waterfront are these beautiful gardens. When you visit them you will see people walking, and jogging and lots of tourists and locals enjoying its beauty. The garden is home to talk trees, orchids and palm groves and also includes a beautiful rose garden.
Sydney Beaches. Sydney boasts many beaches within a 15 minute drive of the city.
